The rehabilitation and expansion of the existing industrial building at 1550 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario created a state-of-the-art high-tech facility for Nortel Networks. The building was stripped to its bare structure with structural reinforcing added to facilitate additional architectural and mechanical elements. Additional elements were added; canopies, entrances, stairs and elevator to enhance access and life safety. The building received the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) award for “Renovated Building of the Year”. Michael Cleland was responsible for the concept design, preliminary design, material research, cost estimates, design, contract document preparation, tender coordination, contract administration, site review and electronic as-built record documents.
