  • PWGSC, Environment Canada, Environmental Technology Centre

    Ottawa, Ontario

    The car storage, testing, and office facility for Environment Canada involved the construction of a new 67,000 ft2, 2-storey structural steel facility plus a link to the existing building. The facility was constructed in 3 phases. The structural elements were detailed to allow for the future vertical expansion of the building as well as the incorporation of new mezzanine areas. An excellent relationship with the building owners, consultants, and contractors, as well as, quality lines of communication were required during the project as changing user demands required the modification of a variety.

  • PWGSC, House of Commons, Food Production Facility

    Ottawa, Ontario

    The Food Production Facility consists of a 17,000 ft2 LEED certified, 2-storey building.  This project was delivered by design-build. The structure generally consists of conventional steel construction and load-bearing masonry. There is a green roof over the entire roofing footprint. The ground floor consists of slab on grade construction with a structural slab above the basement area. The second floor is constructed on concrete on deck supported on open-web steel joists. Roof framing consists of open-web steel joists. The lateral force resisting system of the building consists of conventional braced and moment frames, as well as concrete block shearwalls.

  • RVCA, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Office Building

    Ottawa, Ontario

    The 19,000 ft2, 2-storey office building LEED accredited building was constructed using a wide array of construction materials such as glulam rafters and columns, structural steel, ICF foundations, composite deck and concrete block shear walls. The building’s irregularity and multi-level roofs required innovative designs to provide a cost-effective and efficient structure.

  • City of Ottawa, Ray Friel Centre Twin Arena Expansion

    Ottawa, Ontario

    The project involved the construction of a new long span high-bay facility that housed two arenas that were connected to a 2-storey office and recreational facility. A portion of the existing Ray Friel Centre was also demolished and reconstructed to allow for the creation of a new 2-storey atrium. The project had several challenges, including the connection of the conventionally framed 2-storey steel framed office component to the pre-fabricated component. In addition, as the project was a 3-P/ design build, a good relationship with the contractor and owners was imperative to ensure that the project was completed on time and on budget.

  • PWGSC, Canadian Aviation Museum, Auditorium and Grand Lobby Expansion

    Ottawa, Ontario

    This project involved a 1,500 m2 expansion at the Aviation Museum. The multi-use horizontal building expansion to the main facility included custom 20m span triangular steel trusses supporting a suspended CF100 – Snowbird aircraft, open span grand lobby, state of the art auditorium, multi-use rooms, along with modifications to adjacent existing building to tie to facilities together.

  • City of Ottawa, Asticou Centre Complex

    Ottawa, Ontario

    Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. was the structural engineering team responsible the renovations to two existing gymnasiums and a large hallway linking them to the remainder of the Asticou Centre Complex. The project is actually a collection of four smaller projects that were phased one after the other. The first project, in block 1900, consisted of adding a mezzanine for the court military judge and military defense services offices. Project 2 consisted of introducing 15 language classrooms to the ground floor of block 1900. Project 3 was the renovation of the adjacent arterial hallway and introduction of new washroom facilities. Finally, project 4 was the conversion of the gymnasium in block 1700 into a new meeting hall. Options analysis, concept design, design development, cost analysis, construction documents and construction phase services were provided.
