  • Union Bridge Repairs at the Chaudière Crossing

    Gatineau, Quebec

    The rehabilitation project conducted for Public Works & Government Services Canada to prolong the service life of this important link over the Ottawa River. Constructed in 1919, this steel truss bridge spans 73m across the Chaudière Falls, and across the Ontario-Quebec provincial border. The rehabilitation project involved detailed condition surveys of the superstructure and preparation of remedial design drawings to rectify severe corrosion of structural steel elements, reinforcement of impact damaged sections of the bridge and rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete substructures. The project was implemented in 2010 in conjunction with repainting of structural steel.

    The main objective was to protect and maintain the capacity of the bridge in advance of future total rehabilitation within 15 years.

  • Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, Various Dams and Gantries

    Mississippi River

    Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. was retained to replace the existing gantry systems at various dam locations with gantry systems incorporating fall arrest. Inspection of various dams within the Mississippi River watershed to identify deficiencies and address safety issues related to stop log hoisting.

    The objective was to upgrade existing gantries to address safety issues and current Ministry of Labour requirements as well as the investigation and repair of damaged concrete, steel and wood elements.

  • Generating Station, Condition Assessment

    Ottawa, Ontario

    Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. was retained to evaluate the condition of two generating stations on the Mississippi River, Ontario. The assessment focused on the condition of the concrete structures and required coordination with a commercial dive team. A visual assessment of the dam piers, channel walls, and superstructures was performed and recommendations provided for the concrete repairs.
